World Federation of Democratic Youth: ‘support the democratic and secular forces of Afghanistan’

The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) issued a statement in response to the conquest of Kabul by Taliban forces in Afghanistan.

The YCL is Britain’s affiliate to WFDY, one of over 180 progressive and anti-imperialist youth organisations from more than 100 countries that are members. WFDY organises campaigns as well as solidarity brigades in support of peace, self-determination for all people and social and economic progress.

“The main imperialist forces such as NATO, the USA and the EU have been trying for years to subjugate the Middle East to their interests. We have seen imperialist wars, bombings, coups d’état sponsored by these imperialist forces, destabilisations and so on. It is impossible to understand the situation in this region in isolation from this context.

In addition to this dramatic situation suffered by several peoples in the Middle East, there is the critical victory of the religious extremists and fundamentalist Taliban in Afghanistan, having conquered Kabul in the last few hours.

First of all, we must strongly condemn the imperialist moves, war and interferences that NATO, the USA and the EU did for many years. They only brought death and misery to the people of Afghanistan, the Middle East and also to all the people of the world.

We support the democratic and secular forces of Afghanistan which have fought, are fighting and will continue fighting against imperialism and Taliban and religious extremists. We express our deep solidarity with the innocent youth and people of Afghanistan being victims of imperialism and extremism and call them to escalate their struggle for their free independent future, this is, in an Afghanistan in which its people sovereignly choose their future.”
