“Labour should develop a genuinely independent foreign policy for Britain, not join the new Cold War hysteria against China and Russia driven by the US White House and Pentagon”, John Foster told a two-day meeting of the Communist Party’s political committee yesterday (23 July 2020).
He said the British government’s U-turn on Huawei to end the Chinese company’s involvement in the 5G mobile network would delay technological advance at great cost to the government and future customers.
The CP international secretary also warned that US and British sponsorship of the separatist movement in Hong Kong would damage mutually beneficial trade and investment relations with China as the world’s second biggest economy.
“This escalation of hostilities by the Western imperialist powers comes at a time when Britain’s own international economic relations are in flux, with European Union negotiators determined to ban state aid to British industry and maintain control over fisheries in England and Scotland“, Mr Foster added.
The Communist Party dismissed the newly released ‘Russia Report’ as “much ado about very little“.
“We have no love for the Putin regime, but Britain and the US are no position to lecture him about interference in other countries’ internal affairs, when the peoples of Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Cuba, Venezuela, Korea and elsewhere are struggling to deal with the damaging results of Western intervention“, Mr Foster declared.
He said that recent reports about Russian interference in US and British politics and Chinese policy in Xinjiang, the Uyghur autonomous region, bore all the hallmarks of CIA and MI6 fabrication.
The CP international secretary also warned that US and British sponsorship of the separatist movement in Hong Kong would damage mutually beneficial trade and investment relations with China as the world’s second-biggest economy.itical committee proposed.
