Our Congress! Our Struggle! Our Future!

Greetings and solidarity to all of the delegates attending the YCL’s historic 50th Congress this weekend at Ruskin House and to all the comrades and branches who have participated in Congress debate and discussion this year from the length and breadth of Britain. Our Congress meets at a time when the stakes for our class and for humanity could not be higher.

YCL100: ‘The Defence of Madrid’ by Phil Gillan (1937)

Phil Gillan, a Young Communist League member from Glasgow, was the first of 549 volunteers from Scotland to join the Spanish Civil War. Fresh from the battlefield, he writes about his time training in the Tom Mann Centuria before serving within the Thälmann Battalion, and the realities of war against the fascists. After miraculously surviving a serious injury inflicted by German Nazis, he returned home where he told his story, and helped to recruit many others to join in the united fight for freedom

Communists join People’s Assembly march in London to hold Tories accountable

Both the Communist Party and Young Communist League were in London on Saturday to join the People’s Assembly national demonstration against Boris Johnson’s government. The protest in London was calling for the end of both Tory cuts and Tory rule. The march was also supported by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, trade unions and trades councils and other progressive organisations from across Britain.

Today (15 May 2021) across Britain, hundreds of thousands of people gathered to protest the oppressive Israeli regime and their constant bombardment of Palestinian people in cities across Britain including London, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Aberdeen.

Communists on the campaign trail ’21

With last week’s ‘Super Thursday’ elections, Communists around the country have been pushing for votes. Being the largest election campaign for the Communist Party since the 1980’s the Communist Party is fighting to provide a genuine alternative to the mainstream political parties up and down Britain.
