The Struggle for the Soul of Celtic

On a rather wet Glasgow afternoon, you’d be forgiven for thinking that any attendees of Celtic’s home match with Dundee would want to dart from the car and into the dry safety of the stadium, however for many this presented an opportunity to protest the regime at the club that allowed them to stagnate and fail so spectacularly last season. The Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou and his charges were met with rapturous cheers, and the full back catalogue of songs from a support who had been desperate to cheer on their men for the best part of 18 months.

After miraculously surviving a serious injury inflicted by German Nazis, he returned home where he told his story, and helped to recruit many others to join in the united fight for freedom

Rangers title celebrations mired by racism controversy

Police Scotland have begun an investigation into a video which appears to show the Rangers first team chanting anti-Catholic slurs in their post title celebration. This comes after many Glasgow residents took to social media to complain of similar racism from Rangers supporters in George Square on Saturday. The club, who won their first title since forming in 2012, stopping Celtic from completing a historic 10 league championships in a row, claim that the video may be doctored.

Protesters successfully stop Home Office raid in Glasgow

Hundreds of protesters in the Southside of Glasgow have today (13 May 2021) managed to stop a Home Office attempt to detain and deport two local residents to Afghanistan. At around 10am this morning, calls went out from local direct action groups, including the No Evictions Network, to physically resist the deportation attempt. One individual lodged himself underneath the Home Office van before other activists could arrive to stop the van from moving.

Communism isn’t to blame for soup kitchens in Glasgow – capitalism is

Recently, a picture has emerged of a soup kitchen in George Square, Glasgow, organised by Kindness Homeless Street Team, with a queue that was around two hundred people long. The surprising thing about this is that people were surprised. Homelessness is all around in Glasgow. It is not something that is hidden like it is in other parts of the country. A short walk from Glasgow Central Station to Buchanan Street would show you that, with people sleeping rough at the side of the road.

Glasgow Young Communists fighting food poverty this winter

Following news of a winter lockdown, Young Communists in Glasgow have been collecting food donations over the past few months. These food bank drives have been highly successful and have gathered a great and welcome reception from Glaswegians.

Covid-19 outbreaks across university campuses

Over the weekend, it was announced that students in Scotland and in Manchester were to be placed under further restrictions following significant outbreaks of Covid-19. In Manchester, 127 students have tested positive for the virus, while around 1,700 university students have been told to self-isolate.
