Communists call for ‘major turnout at protest’ on 26 June

Communist Party members and supporters in London, the Home Counties and the South East are being asked to help mobilise for the major protest against government austerity and post-Covid plans, at the demonstration called by the People’s Assembly Against Austerity for Saturday 26 June.

The Communist Party has issued the June edition of its news sheet Unity! focusing on solidarity with Palestine, the upcoming People’s Assembly demonstration on 26 June, the fight against unemployment and international developments.

‘Keep up the pressure for Palestine’ – Communists urge

The Communist Party of Britain has welcomed the upsurge in mass demonstrations around the world in solidarity with the Palestinian people. But the Party’s International Secretary John Foster called for the protests to continue and even escalate, to put pressure on national governments to force Israel to the negotiating table with Palestinian representatives. “Persuasion having failed over recent decades, sanctions against the Israeli state are necessary in order to bring such talks about”, he told the CP Political Committee on Wednesday evening (2 June 2021).

Communist parties meet in ‘World Symposium’

More than 150 representatives of Communist and workers’ parties participated in a World Symposium organised online by the Communist Party of China (CPC) last week (27 May 2021).  The meeting began with a message of greetings from Chinese President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping. He told the international guests that “Marxism sheds light in a scientific way on the laws governing the development of human society, showing the way forward to emancipation and stimulating the advance of civilisation.”

Communist Party condemns ‘ethnic cleansing’ & urges sanctions against Israel

The Communist Party has strongly condemned what it called the “ethnic cleansing” of East Jerusalem and Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. “The murderous assault of the Netanyahu regime and what can only be described as the Israeli Offence Force has exposed – yet again – the brutal character of the Israeli state’s illegal occupation and incarceration of Palestinian lands”, Robert Griffiths told the Party’s Executive Committee on Sunday (16 May 2021).  Britain’s Communists also condemned the refusal  of the US, British and European Union governments to take any meaningful action against the Israeli state’s “crimes against humanity”.  

CP to host online ‘Unemployment Fightback’ events on 29 May & 5 June 2021

The Communist Party is set to hold two high profile Unemployment Fightback events on 29 May and a week later on 5 June featuring speakers from across the labour movement.

Unemployment has risen by over a million during the pandemic and millions more, disproportionately the young, women and minorities, are expected, as furlough ends.  There is obviously a need to build a movement to challenge unemployment and to go further, to demand investment in future well-paid jobs and apprenticeships. Class unity and workplace organisation will be necessary to build this movement which will also need to take on underemployment, job insecurity and the gig economy with its zero hour contracts.

Communists of China and Britain discuss Marxism

In a high-level meeting at the beginning of the month, leading Communists from China and Britain spent more than two hours discussing Marxism past, present and future. The online talks took place at the invitation of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its Vice-Minister Guo Yezhou. The Communist Party of Britain was represented by General Secretary Robert Griffiths, Chair Liz Payne, International Secretary John Foster and Political Committee member Ben Chacko.

Communist Party: ‘beware false prophets’

The Communist Party has urged the labour movement not to listen to “the false prophets of the right” in response to the 6 May election results. “The likes of Lords Mandelson and Adonis only have one overriding aim – to defend the power and wealth of monopoly capitalism”, CP General Secretary Robert Griffiths told the party’s Political Committee on Sunday evening (9 May 2021).
