We condemn the fascist aggression against Juan Balado, councillor of Izquierda Unida (United Left) in Pezuela de las Torres (Madrid).

“Democratic firmness against the fascist hate and violence and those who promote it.”

The general secretary of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE), Enrique Santiago has demonstrated his disgust for the grave threat suffered by the spokesman of United Left in the council of Pezuela de las Torres (Community of Madrid), Juan Balado, who had already reported to police acts of harassement these being shouts and insults of a political nature from people outside his home.

Enrique Santiago has called to respond “with democratic firmness the fascist hate and violence and those who promote it” in a message posted on social media due to the attack. The fire was started a few meters from his house and began at 3am, leaving charred the two vehicles and the pergola under which they were parked and, fortunately, only causing damage to these materials.

Pezuela de las Torres is a small municipality located in the Corredor de Henares and has around 900 neighbours. It is governed by a coalition between an independent group and the Partido Popular (Popular Party), even though United Left was the most voted listing, holding three councillors.

As United Left Madrid has reported the spokesperson alongside his municipal peers in the council have been subjected to threats and insults. The situation between the three councillors of United Left and the governmental team is getting tenser by the day. The councillors have filed a complaint in court on irregularities in the judicial process psych as the convoking of plenary sessions without an objective reason. Problems have also arisen when the prosecution team has tried gaining access to court documentation, where in instances they have been denied access.
