Anti-Women violence rooted in Capitalism, says CP
In the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard, Carol Stavris told the Communist Party’s executive at the weekend that violence against women has “deep roots in the capitalist system of exploitation”. “The position is made worse by inequality, poverty, sexist stereotyping, the commodification of women’s bodies, loss of crucial public services and inadequate support for women and children suffering abuse”, the CP Women’s Organiser declared.

LGBT+ liberation – making the links
Communists from Britain and internationally came together last weekend (27 February 2021) in a special webinar paying tribute to the life of Mark Ashton former general secretary of the Young Communist League and founder of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. Communists attack Sunak’s budget “for the profits of the few”
The Communist Party has launched a stinging criticism of today’s (3 March 2021) budget by Tory Chancellor Rishi Sunak. Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s Budget is for the profits of the few rather than the wellbeing of the many. He plans to dole out many more billions to big business but still refuses to admit who is going to end up paying for yet another eye-watering bail-out of British capitalism. He claims economic growth will generate some of the tax revenues needed, yet the Office for Budget Responsibility has now cut its economic growth forecasts for every year from now until the end of 2025 except the next one.
Communist Party: “find out the facts on the Uyghurs”
The Communist Party of Britain is urging labour movement bodies not to rush to judgment on the Uyghur question in China. The Beijing government has been accused of ‘genocide’ against the mostly Muslim population of 13 million people in the Xinjiang autonomous region, in north-west China. But Communist Party General Secretary Robert Griffiths told his party’s Political Committee on Wednesday evening (24 February 2021) that the charges of ‘genocide’ are ideologically motivated, lacked independent evidence, and are part of the ‘new Cold War’ being waged against China.
The Tory Kickstart scheme is a joke. We need a real plan to beat youth unemployment
The Tories’ flagship ‘Kickstart’ scheme isn’t a subject that has received a great deal of coverage either in the monopoly media or in the labour movement since it was launched as part of the Summer Budget in 2020. This lack of coverage and awareness might be surprising given that it is being touted as the Tories silver bullet to spiralling youth unemployment resulting from the pandemic. In fact, it is really their only significant policy in terms of youth unemployment. But there is a good reason you probably haven’t heard much about it since the scheme was launched. Despite all the government spin, it has been a complete failure.
CP: Britain needs a Zero COVID strategy
The Communist Party has issued the February edition of its news sheet Unity! focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic, demands for a genuine strategy to beat the virus and the Party’s upcoming plans for elections across Britain in 2021.

Communist Party plans biggest electoral campaign since 1983
Last weekend’s Communist Party Executive Committee discussed plans to mount one of its biggest electoral campaigns since the early 1980s. It was reported to the EC that organising meetings have been held across Britain, campaign plans sketched out, artworkers are working on designs and finishing touches are being made to Manifestos for elections in Wales, Scotland and later, for England.
Communist Party calls for “unity against monopoly power”
“State support for the capitalist monopolies and their profits is at the root of society’s major problems, including the Tory government’s disastrous handling of the Covid-19 crisis”, Bill Greenshields told a meeting of the Communist Party’s Executive Committee over the weekend. “This approach characterises the whole range of government policies from austerity and privatisation to state subsidies and the woefully inadequate test-and-trace system”, he charged. Mr Greenshields said that Britain’s successful vaccination programme owed most to the role played by public sector investment, the NHS and other public health and education institutions.
