Universal Credit £20 uplift to end

At the end of September, the Covid Universal Credit boost of £20 a week will be removed. Confirmed by work and pensions secretary Thérèse Coffey, the Tories have been undeterred by pervasive public and cross-party opposition to the move. 

First zero daily Covid deaths reported since start of pandemic

Last Tuesday, NHS England reported zero daily Covid-19 deaths for the first time since the first reported death in March 2020. This marks a year of success in 2021 with thousands of working class nurses working tirelessly to roll out the vaccination programme in England.

Premature school opening puts COVID recovery at risk

Prime Minister Boris Johnson outlined the “roadmap” out of lockdown for England on Monday (22 February 2021), with an idea of when pubs, cinemas, sporting events and non essential shops would be opened. However many are concerned at the opening of schools as early as the 8th of March. Johnson put forward his 4 step plan for England to the House of Commons, with the first step being schools opening early next month.

A mainstay of the Thursday nights during the original lockdown back in Spring 2020, its return is as tragic as it is insulting.
